If you're looking for a lightweight, fast-lifting jack that has some solid muscle, the Sunex 3-ton aluminum floor jack is a fantastic option. You pay a bit more for the convenience of lightweight aluminum, but that's what makes all the difference when you're on the road, at the track, or just want something lighter as a weekend mechanic.

While the Roadster service jack is a great mobile solution for passenger vehicles, sometimes you need a higher lift and greater capacity. That’s where the Sunex 3-ton aluminum floor jack comes into play. It adds 2,500 pounds more capacity and lifts another 3.5″ while sticking with a lightweight aluminum design. This is one automotive tool you want in your shop.

We spent some time getting to know the Sunex 3-ton aluminum floor jack before sending it on its way to a career in country music. 3 tons (6000 pounds) is more than we need to lift the vehicles we have, but that’s the point—always leave wiggle room on the capacity side. One side of that is safety, the other side is leaving flexibility if you need to service a larger vehicle than normal.

If you’re just shopping around and aren’t sure if 3 tons is the right capacity for you, check out this article for some helpful tips.

Sunex uses its Rapid Rise dual piston system, closing the gap from the floor to the load much more quickly than single piston systems. 7-1/2 pumps are all it takes to reach its full 20″ lift. Once it’s under load, Pascal’s hydraulics law takes over and it raises at a slower rate.

Pro Tip: Jacks are for lifting a load hydraulically, but not holding it. Be sure to keep your jack stands handy. Check out more safety tips here.

This Sunex 3-ton aluminum floor jack weighs just 58 pounds thanks to its aluminum construction. It’s a lot lighter than steel designs, but it’s still 58 pounds to move around your shop floor.

Your job is a little easier once you’re under the frame thanks to side handle that let you reposition the jack. Wider track wheels also help move around easily.

The handle is nice and long, giving you a bit of a break in how much muscle you need to add to the system. It unscrews into 2 pieces separate from the jack so storing it for roadside assistance takes up a lot less room.

On the safety side, overload and bypass safety valves act as a limiter so you aren’t able to lift beyond its 3-ton capacity or overextend the ram.

Our Sunex 3-ton aluminum floor jack is hitting the road with country music singer, Eli Mosley. The band is putting a ton of miles around the Southeast on their Mercedes Sprinter 2500 van and towing a trailer that’s 5000-ish pounds fully loaded.

Needless to say, with that kind of mileage, you get your fair share of flats and this 3-ton jack has the perfect combination of lifting capacity and height for them. It’s serving them well without being a huge weight burden and stores out of the way nicely.

Right now, the Sunex 6603ASJ runs $312.99 on Amazon. That’s right in line with other quality aluminum jacks like Arcan’s ALJ3T that costs $253.89.

Of course, you can find 3-ton jacks that are less expensive. Most of those are either much heavier steel or not as high quality.

Nice review! Really liking the floorjack series. If you get the chance, I’d love to see a review on the Proeagle 3 ton off road “Kratos” jack.

12v Electric Scissor Jack

The old jack in the shop is due for replacement and that seems a good candidate for a new one. It would be very cool if that jacks up faster.
